BROOKSVILLE -

Two drug suspects were still banging on the door and shaking the handle to enter a house off Oakcrest Circle when the Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrived, deputies said.

The homeowner was inside the locked house with a gun in his hand, according to an arrest report. He was expecting the people outside to kick in the door any second.

"We showed up before they could get into the house," said Lt. Michael Burzumato, a sheriff's spokesman. "That was probably a good thing for them."

Nicholas Allen Palmer and Morgan Lee Cudo, who were charged with burglary, didn't act appreciative, according to arrest reports.

Palmer was charged with three counts of resisting arrest. Cudo was charged with one count.

After they were searched, they were charged with possession of methamphetamine. Cudo was booked an additional count of possession of a controlled substance after a green pill in a small plastic bag was found inside her bra, deputies said.

Authorities concluded, after speaking with Cudo, that she and Palmer were there to steal from the house. Neither suspect provided additional details.

"They weren't cooperative at all," said Burzumato.

Deputies said Palmer and Cudo entered the screened-in porch and were banging on the door when they arrived shortly before 6 p.m.

Palmer ran away into the woods, but was apprehended by two deputies, according to an arrest affidavit.

He tried to escape again, at which time a third deputy assisted in the apprehension and Palmer was taken to the ground, which caused an injury to his forehead, authorities said.

After his third attempt to resist arrest and after he was patted down, a small plastic bag filled with methamphetamine was discovered in a cigarette case in his pocket, according to the affidavit.

Palmer was taken to a local hospital for treatment before he was booked at the Hernando County Jail.

Cudo tried pulling away after she was handcuffed and tried kicking one of the deputies, which led to her resisting arrest charge, according to the sheriff's office.

In addition to the pill found in her bra, a small bag of methamphetamine was discovered in Cudo's underwear, deputies said.
