Is Florida great, or what? Another election cycle that we have maintained our lead as the comic punch-line for election humor. And what do the voters do about it? Why we send most of those egomaniacs right back to Tallahassee to do more of the same!
Let us jump right to our own Mr. Robert Schenck. Does he come out for voting reform? Does he rile against the way the voters of Florida were mistreated in this past election? Why no, of course not, he was part of it. He is resurrecting his crusade against red light cameras. Now there is a hot topic that really must be addressed and the voters be damned!
Never mind that there have been studies and news reports that the cameras have reduced the fatalities at these intersections. He insists that it is a topic, far and above any concern for the voting mess that exists in Florida. But then, what does he care? He is out in two years anyway and is going to need a job.
The point is, he reflects the thought processes of most, not all mind you, of the re-elected bunch that we sent back to lead us. We can only hope that the few in Tallahassee with any sense at all will prevail and get Florida back to some semblance of normalcy and off of the late night talk show monologues.
Follow the Bible
To my fellow Bible-believing evangelicals, many whom I know read this paper, some post elections advice.
Don't be looking down, look up! The things that change not will always be more important than the things that do. Clearly the Judeo-Christian influence in our country is waning. The founding of our country was, historically, an aberration.
What country before it had ever been founded on Biblical principles and dedicated itself to freedom of conscience in matters of religion? The founders well understood that such freedom might one day endanger those principles.
As a result, Christians in America today, must not let society define who we are through mockings, misunderstandings, and even well intentioned advice, many will attempt just that.
The Christian must know what he stands for and why. Fortunately we have an unchanging guidebook. While psychologists and social planners multiply their solutions, the Bible offers the clearest diagnosis and most effective treatment for evil in the heart of man.
While historians reinterpret history ad nauseam, the Bible gives the most helpful history of mankind and its future! While scientists continually rewrite textbooks and drift from theory to theory, no archaeological find or laboratory experiment has disproved this Book.
Rather, non speculative science, unfiltered by a naturalistic worldview, continues to confirm its truth. The political world may espouse human rights and freedom, but only the Bible gives the foundation for the worth and dignity of man while showing the true path to liberty.
So then, nations and leaders come and go as does the hope placed in them, but the church rolls on through the centuries, energized by the forgiveness and love of their Creator. The church will continue its work to care for its own and seek to share its blessings with the world. When it comes to the question of Caesar of God, it's no contest; Jesus is King!
