A 22-year-old Spring Hill man was arrested Monday on grand theft and identity theft charges in connection with a credit card stolen out of a Spring Hill home's mailbox.
Cody Ryan Whitney is being held at the Hernando County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
The incident was initially reported on Nov. 4 when Candice Banville noticed several unauthorized charges on her Sears MasterCard.
Between Sept. 16 and Sept. 26, 18 unauthorized transactions were made totaling more than $1,070.
Banville told deputies that the only person with access to the residence where the credit card was stolen was 26-year-old Aileen Torres, who is the caretaker for her grandfather.
After surveillance footage was gathered from various locations where the unauthorized transactions occurred, an investigator then spoke to Torres.
Torres was able to indentify the person making the illegal purchases as Whitney, the report said.
Torres told deputies she allowed Whitney to stay at the home on Acorn Circle while she was caring for Banville's grandfather.
Deputies were able to locate Whitney at a home in Spring Hill where he was arrested without incident.
During an interview with a detective Whitney confessed to making the charges at Walgreens, but denied stealing the credit card, the report states.
