SPRING HILL -

A man on probation wound up behind bars again following allegations he beat his wife and 70-year-old father.

Gene Arden Leavitt Jr., 46, of 18074 Celia Ave. in Brooksville, was at his home Thursday night when he started grabbing his wife by the hair and striking her in the back and face, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Leavitt's father intervened and Leavitt shoved and punched him, deputies said.

The suspect's wife called the sheriff's office and Leavitt left on a blue Yamaha motorcycle before deputies arrived, according to an arrest affidavit.

Leavitt eventually was pulled over shortly before 11 p.m. at the corner of Sandlewood Avenue and Tavern Road in Spring Hill and arrested.

The suspect told deputies he shoved his wife, punched his father and was sorry about it, according to the affidavit.

Additionally, the motorcycle Leavitt was riding was his father's and he didn't have a license, deputies said.

Leavitt was on probation following a drug conviction, according to records.

He was charged Thursday with battery on a person 65 or older, domestic battery and violation of probation. He was taken to the Hernando County Jail and held without bond.
