Spring Hill and Brooksville Jazzercise members collected more than 500 items and $300 for the troops overseas by holding benefit dance-fitness classes for an Americana July 4th Extravaganza.

Each participant was asked to bring in an item for the troops as their admission to the event.

The event was held at both Jazzercise locations, 7257 Forest Oaks Blvd. in Spring Hill and at 422 S. Broad St. in Brooksville, and drew 75 participants.

"They didn't just bring one item, but instead brought bags and boxes full of items. The participants were so generous," said Becky Mooneyham, Jazzercise instructor and organizer of the benefit.

Mooneyham said the event provided needed items for the program "Gifts from Home", a non-profit organization in Spring Hill run by Linda Kidwell.

The donations will be boxed up and sent to the troops overseas.

Jazzercise, which offers a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing movements all to current music of many genres.
