MASARYKTOWN -

Deputies arrested a man they said had taken his pregnant girlfriend's head and smashed it repeatedly against the floor during an argument Monday night.

The Hernando County Sheriff's office was called around 7 p.m. to a house at 212 Broad St.

The accuser told deputies her live-in boyfriend, Robert Timothy Hays, had beaten her head against the floor in one room, dragged her feet to another room and beat her head against the floor some more, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies said there was dried blood on the woman's ear, which had come from some cuts on her scalp.

The accuser also had a lot of bruises on both of her upper arms, according to the affidavit.

Hays, 52, didn't admit to the beatings but said he knew his girlfriend was three months pregnant, authorities said.

He was transported to the Hernando County Jail and held without bond.
