An 84-year-old Brooksville man is dead after his golf cart collided with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon in Hernando County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a report, Thomas J. Lashinsky was driving a 2010 golf cart north on U.S. Highway 19 at Hexam Road at about 10 mph when it attempted to chance lanes and turn in front of a 1996 Ford pickup.

The front of the pickup struck the left side of the car, ejecting Lashinsky into the median. The cart became lodged into the front of the truck, which then crossed the southbound lanes of road and into the west shoulder.

Lashinsky was taken to Bayonet Point Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Casey Kevin Stargel, 62, of Brooksville, was not hurt.
